Inclement Weather Bus Stops Will Remain in Effect for Thursday, January 29th

Posted Date: 01/28/26 (04:00 PM)

Dear Garrison Families,

I am writing with an important transportation update for tomorrow, Thursday, January 29, 2026. After reviewing road conditions again today, Inclement Weather Bus Stop Pick‑Up and Drop‑Off Locations will remain in effect for students who live on Avery Road, Travis Corners Road, Indian Brook Road, and Old Albany Post Road.

This afternoon, I traveled these roads with one of our licensed Class B bus drivers to review conditions firsthand. While we did see improvement in some areas, we agreed that there are still too many stretches along these dirt roads that are not wide enough for a full‑size bus and another vehicle to pass safely. In addition, snow and slippery road conditions persist in several areas, raising concerns about traction and overall bus safety.

I have been in regular communication with the Philipstown Highway Supervisor, who has been very responsive. He shared that additional crews are scheduled to work on these roads tomorrow to continue widening them and improving the surface. Our transportation team and I will assess the roads again tomorrow once crews have had time to work.

We fully understand that continuing the Inclement Weather Bus Stops can create difficulty and disruption for families, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes. At the same time, we must balance these challenges with our responsibility to ensure the safety of all students. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work toward restoring normal transportation as soon as it is safe to do so.

Families who live on the affected roads should continue to use the Inclement Weather Alternative Bus Stops for both morning pick‑up and afternoon drop‑off. Details and approximate times remain available on our Transportation page:  https://www.gufs.org/44308_2.

Respectfully,

Dr. Greg Stowell
Superintendent of Schools
