We Want to Hear From You

Friday, November 06, 2009 by Garrison Goals
Hello! This blog has been created with the sole purpose of gathering input from you, our public, to assist the Board of Education with the process by which we formulate goals for the Garrison School District. The goals that we put together and approve then serve to guide the superintendent and the principal in the formation of their goals, which in turn guide everyone in the District.
.
We are thinking about the future, not just for this school year, but for three or more years into the future. We want to chart a path that our school can follow that will be the best for our children, and building that can take time as pieces are put in place.
We really do value input from everyone. We are holding a series of four public workshops, all at the school, and this blog is an opportunity for those who cannot attend a workshop to share thoughts and suggestions. You can review our current goals by clicking on the link on the main page of this Web site.
.
Please share by commenting on this post and on other posts that we will add from time to time. We will update this blog as we synthesize the feedback we've received and put together the goals. Your input is welcome as we go along.
.
Thank you for your interest in the Garrison Union Free School District.

Congratulations on creating and conducting an open, well-publicized forum for focusing on our school's future!
In moving to the crucial Stage Two, converting discussions to a usable document, the concern of many is that the final product be in fact a usable document. The existing one inclines towards unexceptional vagueness, goals and objectives feel too similar, and both can seem somewhat self-fulfilling.
F.W.I.W. (for what it's worth) during my tenure as a minor ceo with a mighty board, I got pretty good at mission statements, objectives, etc that were either already happening or almost impossible to evaluate.
While this worked OK for me, we don't think such approaches, conscious or intuitive, will lead our beloved GUFS to a successful Stage Three -- action and implementation.
Thanks again for your good efforts so far,
Gordon Stewart
